As the highest academic program in communication studies in Taiwan, the Doctoral Program in the College of Communication plays a pivotal role in advancing disciplinary knowledge and serving as a key national resource for expertise. In response to the evolving landscape of digitalization, media convergence, and globalization, the program has broadened its admissions criteria to attract a diverse range of candidates. In addition to master’s degree holders in communication-related fields, the program actively recruits:

  1. Graduates from related disciplines, including social sciences, humanities, information technology, telecommunications, and interdisciplinary studies.
  2. Professionals from non-academic sectors, such as government agencies, industry, and non-profit organizations, who hold a master’s degree and seek further academic advancement.
  3. Outstanding international students, to enhance global perspectives and strengthen international competitiveness.

 

Doctoral candidates in the College of Communication are expected to develop the following key competencies:

  1. Advanced Research and Creative Thinking

As the highest level of graduate education, the Ph.D. program demands not only a strong passion for research but also systematic, rigorous, and in-depth training. It aims to cultivate research excellence, creative problem-solving, and practical application skills. Like other social sciences, communication studies have significant real-world implications. Doctoral students must be capable of identifying critical issues, analyzing complex phenomena, and formulating innovative solutions.

  1. Global Mobility and Interdisciplinary Expertise

In an increasingly interconnected academic and professional landscape, the program fosters international awareness and cross-cultural dialogue, equipping graduates with the skills necessary to compete in global academia and industry. Beyond academic careers, students are encouraged to apply their expertise in knowledge-based industries, government agencies, and the non-profit sector.
