As Taiwan’s first Ph.D. Program in Communication field, our Ph.D. Program aims at cultivating more excellent faculty to devote in the field of Communication Education in Taiwan. Our program lays equal emphasis on every sub-discipline in communication field and extends the course design ideas for master degree program.  Also, this program is devoted to create academic innovations and future developments of program’s visions.

The Ph. D. Program in Communication was formerly the Ph. D. Program in Journalism. Founded in 1983, the program is known as the highest and the only one Ph. D. degree in the College of Communication. On August, 2013, in response to the imbalance of talent supply and demand and to follow the trends of media convergence and internationalization , the College decided to adjust the Ph. D. Program in Journalism to join the College, renamed as the Ph. D. Program in Communication, so that not only the College’s teaching and research resources could together support the  doctor degree program but also could make it better competitive while confronted with the challenges of digital technology, media convergence, and globalization to the knowledge fields and systems of Communication. It is also hoped that Ph. D. Program can spur “diffusion” effects to ensure communication education and academic research could contribute professional viewpoints as well as ability for research and development to industry, government institutes, and even third sectors.

As the highest education degree in Taiwan, our Program recruits diverse professionals and plays the key role for the inheritance of knowledge in communication filed as well as important human resources for Taiwan . Except for graduate students from communication field, we are also looking for:

2.     In-service staff in non-academic sectors of related fields (such as government institutes, industries, and the third sectors) with master degree and want to accept advanced studies.

3.     Excellent graduate students from other countries/regions (for the purpose of extending students’ international visions and increasing international competitiveness)

We expect Ph. D. candidates in our program to have meet the following requirements :

1.     In-depth research capability and innovative thinking ability (Ph. D candidates are the graduate students with the highest academic degree and they should not only be enthusiastic in research but also need systematic, rigorous, and practical in-depth trainings for cultivating both research ability and innovative thinking as well as practical ability) Strictly speaking, practicability is common in each fields of social science. Communication filed is also practical. Therefore, Ph. D. students in communication program should both have the ability to solve problems as well as to explain phenomenon and the potentials to solve problems.

(2)    Intellectual mobility (Especially in knowledge field. It is hoped that our Ph. D. candidates not only become professors or lecturers in university or colleges but also could devoted themselves in knowledge industry, government institutes, or third sectors in R&D / implementation works in response to Taiwan’s strong demands for talents with high education background)

We expect our Ph. D. graduates to hold diverse R&D and management positions on campuses and other social sectors. Specifically speaking, besides teaching and research positions, Ph.
